- This whimsical fish can be found in the Indo-Pacific region from the Red Sea and East Africa eastward through Indonesia to Marquesas, northward to southern Japan including Tuamotus, southern Korea, and southward to Lord Howe Is.
This is an omnivorous egg laying fish. Its skin has bony plating underneath and is toxic. When scared it can release a toxic chemical which can kill other fish including itself.
